Main truth

Jesus has authority over the storm and is with his people when they are afraid. Trust can live alongside real fear and wise action.

Parent steps

  1. Read Mark 4:35-41 and name that the danger was real.
  2. Tell the five simple beats: boat, storm, fear, Jesus speaks, calm.
  3. Ask what Jesus' friends did when afraid: they called to Jesus.
  4. Pair prayer with wise action such as telling a safe adult, following safety instructions or getting emergency help.
  5. Practise one slow breath with a parent or safe grown-up, then pray briefly if the child wants.

Activity choices

Little Lights

Move a cardboard boat on blue cloth and place storm and calm cards in order. Use the truth phrase: I can trust Jesus.

Bible Explorers

Sort actions into wise help, unsafe or unhelpful, and prayer can accompany wise action. Include emergency and safeguarding examples.

Family-length option

Put a calm-breath card where the family can see it and pair it with a simple prayer and a safe-help reminder.

Concrete questions

  • What did Jesus' friends do when they were afraid?
  • What details show the storm was serious?
  • What should trust look like during a real emergency?

Gentle prayer response

Jesus, you are Lord. When we are afraid, help us trust you and seek safe help.

Safety note

Do not imply every storm or frightening situation will stop immediately, that fear is sin by itself, or that prayer replaces emergency, medical or safeguarding help.
