Main truth

Wise disciples hear Jesus' words, trust him and put them into practice. Obedience is a response to Jesus' love, not a way to buy it.

Parent steps

  1. Build one small block house on a firm board and one on a soft unstable base.
  2. Read Matthew 7:24-27 and notice that both builders heard Jesus' words.
  3. Explain that wisdom included putting Jesus' words into practice.
  4. Read Luke 11:28 and say that hearing and keeping God's Word is blessed.
  5. Choose one safe practice from Jesus' teaching, without scoring or reporting success later.

Activity choices

Little Lights

Use ear and hand actions: I hear, I do, God's Word. Give safe one-step instructions such as make room, pass a card or stop and listen.

Bible Explorers

Complete a three-column table: Jesus' teaching, what it means, one small practice. Include welcome, neighbour-love and trust in fear.

Family-length option

Choose one teaching from the term and practise it together privately.

Concrete questions

  • What did both builders have in common?
  • What made one builder wise?
  • What safe action fits one command of Jesus we have learned?

Gentle prayer response

Jesus, thank you for speaking. Help me trust and do what you say.

Safety note

Adults' commands do not equal Jesus' commands. God does not ask children to obey an adult who tells them to do something unsafe or keep an unsafe secret. Tell a safe grown-up.
